Birman & Ride
|
Birman & Ride has been on the bleeding edge of
technology for 30 years:
|
|
- In 1981, along with Parker & Parker, it was one of the first firms to
install (in its purpose-built air-conditioned room) a mainframe computer with
customised legal accounting software.
- In 1983 the firm was a test site for NCR’s products for the legal
profession.
- It was one of the first (if not the first) firms to bring terminals to
everyone’s desk.
- Between 1992 and 1999 the firm employed in-house programmers to develop
Legal Office Information System (LOIS) – an SQL based data management system
that integrated document production with its advanced database of clients and
prospects.
With the advent of
Windows-compatible products and practice restructuring,
the firm reluctantly
switched to a locally produced software package. The
new software was reasonably priced – it would have
been unreasonable if it wasn’t. In every other respect
its capabilities fell far short of what could be
achieved with a well designed SQL relational
database. Birman & Ride disliked it so much, they
joined forces with us* to build legal
software that works the way lawyers work.
For the past three years Birman &
Ride has been an IT test lab. Lawyers and
administrative staff have worked shoulder to shoulder
with Overtech’s brilliant programmers and business
analysts
in a unique collaboration. The result - ContactsLaw
- uncompromising world class legal practice software
customised for Western Australian lawyers.
Birman & Ride has been successfully
running versions of
ContactsLaw for almost 2 years. In that time,
they’ve:
-
raised practice standards
– for example, automated distribution of correspondence
to clients, painlessly generated customised cost
agreements and costs disclosure statements, and 2009
compliant trust accounting;
-
automated many routine
tasks - dramatically reducing (or even eliminating)
time involved in mundane chores such as filing,
telephone answering, repetitive word processing, file
administration, creditor management and archiving;
-
significantly reduced our
ratio of administrative to professional staff; and
-
because
our registry team does more responsible work and our
lawyers have been empowered to better manage their
files – we’ve achieved impressive increases in
productivity
along with lower overheads.
In late 2007 we were joined by two
beta partners from Irwin Chambers –
Kawalsky Lawyers
and Larina
Giudice.
We’re keen to work with more law
firms with complementary or specialist practices.
